Gosh and Goshavank

Gosh village is located in the province of Tavush between the cities of Dilijan and Ijevan, just few kilometres off the highway. The monastery of Gosh, or Goshavank, is located in the village.

The monastery was originally named as Nor-Getik but it was renamed after its founder Mkhitar Gosh soon after his death.

Unlike many other Armenian monasteries, Goshavank is located in the middle of the village.

There is a bus from Gosh to Dilijan every other morning. Every other one it goes to Ijevan. We had back luck with that and decided hence to walk by foot the main road. Before reaching there, however, a car stopped and offered us a ride to Dilijan. From there, we took a bus to Lake Sevan.

The Israelis stayed at Gosh with intention to hike through the hills to Dilijan.
