AIHEITA PHOTOS

Aiheita Photos is a photoblog mostly about different places.

The blog is not updated anymore. New photosets are published at the Albums section of my travel photos site. Single images are added to Picture by picture photo pages.

Verla mill village

Verla groundwood and board mill in Jaala is one of the Finnish sites on Unesco World Heritage list. Verla is included since it is 'remarkably well-preserved example of the small-scale rural industrial settlements' from 19th and early 20th century.

What is particularly remarkable is that most of the machinery is still in place and practically in working condition. For photos of the factory, see the Wikimedia Commons page.

I visited Verla in July, 2009. As a geographer I am not that interested in machines but in the milieu. Below there are 19 photographs of Verla mill and the village which I took on my visit.

For more information on Verla mill and village, please visit the museum website.
