Photos of places : Roseau : Botanic Gardens
Dominica's Botanical Gardens are located just next to the downtown of Roseau. It used to be one of the finest botanic gardens in the Caribbean. Unfortunately Hurricane David caused lots of destruction there in 1979, and the gardens have never regained their former glory.
Still today, the gardens provide a peaceful park where one can relax from the bustling town life of Roseau city centre. Moreover, the gardens are still home to wide array of plants from different parts of the tropical world.
The gardens are also a traditional site for playing cricket. On the edges of the park, and partly inside too, there are several schools and government buildings. The French cultural centre is located between the gardens and Roseau River.
Website and guidebook of the gardens provided great help in recognizing the plants. For some more photographs of the gardens, please visit the extra photos page.
Roseau photographs of this site are taken by Niko Lipsanen. The pictures on this page are taken in November and December, 2007. Older images (taken in 1999 and 1993) can be found at the old Roseau Photo Gallery.
