July 2004 - Travelling around France by train.

Tourcoing

We arrived in France on Wednesday July, 7th. We reached just few kilometres from Belgium to the French side of the border until the train went out of order. After waiting for a couple of hours we came to the city of Tourcoing where we took a TGV train to Paris.

Paris

Paris was the first place in our voyage where we spent several nights. We stayed at Hotel Formule 1 in nearby town of Vitry-sur-Seine. The closest metro station was Villejuif about one kilometre from the hotel.

Monaco

From Paris we took a night train to Monaco as it was far enough to have a decent sleep. We arrived there on Sunday morning of July, 11th.

Marseille

We left Monaco already in the same evening for Marseille. My camera was stolen there at the Central Railway Station and I lost a lot photos from Paris and Monaco. Fortunately Mari had taken some photos, too, with her camera. Nevertheless, we decided to go to the beach and enjoy the sun and sea.

Savoie

From Marseille we went to visit Christiane, a friend of mine from Guadeloupe, and Alain in the town of Villefontaine near Lyon. With them we made a day trip to Aiguebelette lake in Savoie.

Paris again

In the morning of July 14th, the French national day, we took TGV train from Lyon to Paris. Most of the festivities were already over, however. In the evening we headed again to the south - this time by night train to Toulouse.

Toulouse

Toulouse was already one of my favourite cities in France as I had visited it once earlier. We stayed there one day before going to a village called le Fossat near the city of Pamiers.

le Fossat

In le Fossat we stayed two night at the home of Gernidos family (Christiane's mother and sisters).
