Armenia 2009

Armenia

I visited Armenia with my sister in May/June, 2009. Our main intention was to visit some monasteries and enjoy good food. These pages contain 865 photos and a travelogue from the trip.

We spent the first few days in Yerevan, the Armenian capital. From there we traveled by train to the country's second largest city Gyumri, and subsequently to the north of the country to see monasteries of Sanahin and Haghpat.

Next, we took direction to the south. Using mainly minibuses, we travelled throught the magnificent sceneries of Lake Sevan and Selim Pass to Tatev monestary and admired the Ararat mountains from another monastery, Khor Virap. Finally, we visited the See of the Armenian Apostolic Church at Etchmiadzin (which we already visited once in the beginning of our trip).

We also saw few other monasteries and cities on our way. See links to photo pages and travel reports on the left.

Our way back to Finland was similar to one we took to get to Armenia: Air Baltic flights from Yerevan via Riga to Helsinki.
