My sister used to live in Tenerife. In August, 1999 I decided to go to visit her. It was a quick offer by Fritidsresor travel operator: cheap but no prior information was given about the accommodation. In the plane I met a guy called Mika who was from Valkeakoski and had bought a similar kind of quick offer. We both ended up in Los Gigantes which is a small village in the Northwestern part of Tenerife. The hotel was almost of de luxe quality but its location was remote.

My sister used to live in Puerto de la Cruz which is on the northern coast of Tenerife. I went there with Mika. It took some one and half hours by bus from Los Gigantes to go there.

We rented a car to tour around Tenerife for few days.

January 2001

In January, 2001, I went again to Tenerife to meet my sister Nina. This time it was a regularly priced charter holiday and my hotel was located in Puerto de la Cruz which of course was more convenient. There was no need to traverse the island almost every day as was on my previous visit.

Mika wasn't there that time but there was Miikka, new neighbour of Nina. Funny Face was now his dog as she has decided it was more funny (sic!) with him. Hyena was still with Nina.

This time I decided to climb on the top of Teide. To reach the top I needed to get a permission for which I had to travel to Santa Cruz. In the end it was not necessary, however, since I didn't have enough time for the very top of the mountain. Due to bus timetables there was only about five hours to climb up and return. If I visit Tenerife ever again I take a bed in refugio up on the mountainside and spend two days in Teide.
